Physical Education aims to develop the student holistically. Every academic institution purposes to improve the implementation of Physical Education in order to achieve student's growth in various fields. The importance given to Physical Education as a curricular offering in all schools, colleges, and universities is contained in the 1986 Philippine Constitution which mandates the promotion of Physical Education and encourages sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including the training for international competitions. All educational institutions shall undertake regular sports activities in cooperation with athletic clubs and other sectors. Service Physical Education as a curricular offering contains four learning areas: Physical Fitness, Rhythmic Activities, Individual and Dual Sports, and Team Sports. Its basic objective is the development of the individual which includes strength, vigor, vitality, neuro-muscular coordination, and good citizenship. Accordingto DECS Memo No. 133 s. 1990, there are four required Basic Physical Education courses in the college level that should be taken during the first four semesters of college work.
