Anna Masterton Buchan was a Scottish author who wrote under the name O. Douglas. She was born on March 24, 1877, and died on November 24, 1948. Most of her books were written between the wars and were set in small towns or villages in southern Scotland, which was based on her own life. The Reverend John Buchan and Helen Masterton had a daughter named Anna Buchan. She was born in Pathhead, Scotland. John Buchan, the politician and author, was her younger sister. In her younger years, she lived in Peebles, which is near the town of Broughton where her parents met for the first time. She went to Hutchesons' Grammar School in Glasgow. Her first book, Olivia in India, came out in 1912 from Hodder & Stoughton. It was written in 1945 and is a biography about her brother John, Lord Tweedsmuir, and the Buchan family. She talks about her trip to see her brother in Canada, where he was Governor-General from 1935 to 1940. Farewell to Priorsford, her memoirs, came out after she had died in 1950. At the John Buchan Museum in Peebles, her work is shown next to that of her brother.
