Are you brave enough... free enough to ask God tough questions?Have you grown tired of praying the same desperate prayers over and over again? Has an extended period of pain left you numb when you try to pray, read your Bible, attend church? You've cried all your tears dry, begging God to do something. But He never answered. He never intervened. Where do you turn? What's the point of knowing God is with you if you can't feel His nearness? His love? His help? You don't want to give up your faith. There's no where else to go. But how do you hold onto a faith that hurts more than it heals? No one on the planet escapes the clash between faith and harsh reality. When confronted with the ruthlessness of reality, we instinctively reach for the automatic questions. Blinded by torment, we miss a full menu of possible responses. We begin with the usual... the "Why?" brand of demands. Questions like, "Why is this happening?" These age-old questions have age-old answers that we can globally agree are insufficient. They don't cut it. Yet, at the point of our desperation they surface, and we yearn for new and satisfying insight. This is not just a story of my journey out of my Slimy Pit. This is a "dig into the Word of God and Shift your understanding of what you truly Need" challenge to incite you toward more of Jesus. This gut-wrenching, Slimy Pit wilderness has no power to define your worth. Instead, this season holds the opportunity for fruitful encounters with God. Make this holy ground with Jesus. How? In this book, I'll weave bits of my Slimy Pit story with journal promptings and Bible study exercises to incite you to:Brave asking questions deeper than the common "Why?" demands. Broaden your perspective of God's character, promises, and intentions toward you. Shift your Need. Right now, you're consumed with needing answers. Your thoughts, your prayers, your devotions, your questions all center around relief from your suffering. But you need more than breakthrough... infinitely more. Ask, Seek, and Knock again...this time with a fresh desire for all Jesus offers you, beyond your current pain.
Autorenporträt
Rhonda Showers is the Outreach & Teaching Pastor at Peoples Church in Bourbonnais, IL. She loves teaching adults how to dig deeper into the Word of God and see them glean their own "Aha!" moments from Jesus. Because her healing journey relied so heavily on spending quiet time with the Lord, Rhonda has made her mission to help others learn to feel "safe" in their alone times with God. For many, getting "alone with God" means entering what feels like a war zone with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Rhonda is passionate about helping churches recognize this barrier for many hurting people and teaching them to support these precious ones as they learn to be still before God. Learn more at www.RhondaShowers.com.As a natural connector/entrepreneur, Rhonda founded the Mental Health Network Kankakee County. Her community holds a higher-than-average rate of suicide. Together, the providers and residents in Kankakee County are working together to strengthen their response to the mental health needs of their community.Rhonda is most proud of her roles as wife to her best friend, Thom (Mr. Wonderful) and mother to Aidan, Evan, and Liv.
