History, to be understood, must be more than a collection of disconnected poorly explained anecdotes. A credible history of a Hebredian clan must explain the relationships between the island clans, their alliances and something of their culture. A good history must also discuss the pressure on the clans that was exerted by the kings of Scotland as they sought to incorporate the Hebrides into the Kingdom of Scotland. The Small Regiment, volume 1, Origins of the Clan MacKinnon, is suitable for everyone with an interest in the Clan MacKinnon or Hebridean history. This is not simply another history of Scotland with a Lowland or English bias. Every effort was made to maintain a MacKinnon focus and an Hebridean prospective. Autorenporträt
Gerald was born and raised in Western Canada. He studied Communication Engineering. has worked in British Columbia's commercial fishing fleet, served with the Canadian Forces in the Middle East and taught electronics in Sub-Saharan Africa. He has always been a keen reader of history and regarded family as the most important element of his life. The high regard for family and interest in history merged in his research and writing of The Small Regiment a detailed, multi-volume, history of the Clan MacKinnon.
