Hunger and malnutrition has been the most serious problem currently facing the majority of the world s population (WHO, 2000).Conventionally, nutritional status of children is an indicator of the nutritional profile of the entire community (Thomas et al, 1990).High rates of disability, illness and death, are some of the effects of nutritional deficiencies among children. They also affect the long term physical growth and development of children. In addition, future economic growth can be jeopardized by high rates of malnutrition by reducing the intellectual and physical potential of the entire population. Good infant and child health is synonymous with wealth of the future.
