This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the Socio-economic status of the aged in Kenya both at family and community level. It examines the demographic characteristics of the aged, self perceptions of the aged, challenges faced by the aged and strategies employed to cope with them, and government policies on the issues of the elderly. The book is a contribution to the existing pool of knowledge and information in the wider field of Gerontology. The plight of the elderly - more specifically - in Third World countries where modernization has made the elderly to suffer more rather than enjoy their sunset years is discussed. It is highly recommended for policy makers and development agencies seeking to minimize the challenges faced by the elderly. Students of Gerontology, Health Care and Ageing, Social Policy and Administration, and Social Work will also find it very useful.
