The book sheds light on how the speech act of reprimand is used by people in various situations. It also compares this speech act with other related acts such as insult, rebuke, reproof and others. After adopting a model of reprimanding, a test has been conducted to two groups of people. One group is consisted of native speakers and the other consists of PhD and MA candidates. After collecting their answers, they are compared to see what strategies have been manipulated by them and to what extent. Finally, it seems that some new strategies have been used by both groups other than those in the adapted model. The book also shows whether this speech act is differentiated by the groups from the other related ones which are even challenging for native speakers.
