Shimelis Gebre was born in Arsi, Ethiopia, on January 13, 1977. He studied Sociology between 1996 and 2000 at Addis Ababa University. He received a B.A. in Sociology from Addis Ababa University in July 2000, and a M.A. in Population and Socioeconomic Development Planning from Adama Science and Technology University in Mar 2015.
