Riley Shepard Brown (1911-1992) was a longtime resident of New Jersey and well-known columnist in the Moorestown Sunday Courier Post. Brown grew up in Cordele, Georgia, and wrote often of his Southern heritage, and had a keen interest in the Civil War. He played football at the University of Georgia and minor league baseball in the South and Southwest. After service in the Coast Guard during World War II, he made a living writing detective stories. Even after joining N. W. Ayer and Son, where he was an advertising writer and executive for 20 years, he continued to write magazine articles and television and movie screenplays. He was working on two novels when he passed.Brown's favorite work was his biography of a Confederate officer, Stringfellow of the Fourth, published in 1960. He also wrote a history of the US Coast Guard.
