Penniless and alone, Octavia Hadley finds herself forced to accept a position as governess to an orphaned girl living with her English diplomat guardian in faraway Russia. But when the diplomat abandons them as Napoleon's army marches into Moscow, Octavia is determined to get both herself and the girl to safety. Fleeing for their lives, the pair embark on a perilous trek northward-but to Octavia's dismay, the only way to reach the safety of St. Petersburg is to join forces with a roguish Englishman she met on ship voyage to Russia. He, too, has a child in tow-his young Russian nephew whose life in danger from a murderous uncle and his henchmen who are chasing after them. With the French army at her back and safety miles and miles ahead, Octavia must not let down her guard-but greatest danger just might be the infuriating Alex Leigh . . .and the unexpected passion that sparks between them.

Autorenporträt
I started creating books at the age of five, or so my mother tells me. And she has the proof-a neatly penciled story, the pages lavishly illustrated with full color crayon drawings of horses and bound with staples-to back up her claim. I have since moved on from Westerns to writing about Regency England (clearly I have a thing for Men In Boots!) a time and place that has captured my imagination ever since I opened the covers of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."I have a BA and an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University, where I studied book design (As you see, I've always had a left brain-right brain love affair with art and the printed word.) These days, when I'm not tethered to my keyboard I enjoy traveling to interesting destinations around the world-however, my favorite spot is London, where the esoteric museums, funky antique markets and used book stores offer a wealth of inspiration for my stories.
