What happens when the solid ground you're standing on begins to disappear from beneath your feet? That's the dilemma facing the Harris family, whose bizarre and unconventional show business life appears to be coming to an end. By turns hilarious and poignant, The Strangest, Craziest People offers a glimpse of the chaos and exhilaration of their life offstage. "I was raised in a traveling circus," says 15-year-old Ginger Harris. "I know, all kids think that, but in my case it was almost true. I really grew up as the unwitting victim of a small band of variety acts, people whose jobs were so weird that they don't exist anymore." Ginger's family's world is made up of jugglers, musicians, ventriloquists and other colorful characters whose little corner of show business is rapidly fading away. Her flamboyant mother, Dorothy, has a plan, though, hitching her hopes to a chance at stardom that a celebrity friend might offer. In the meantime, she suspects her husband, Ted, is having an affair and assigns Ginger to keep an eye on him. Ginger quickly realizes that the situation is far worse than even Dorothy imagines. As Dorothy hangs on to her last chance to achieve her dreams, Ginger must try to hold her family together while also finding her own place in the world.
