Myrtle Russell is a health promotion specialist, public health administrator, author, and life coach. Combining her passion for health promotion with a longtime dream of writing, she has written four books. The first one she co-wrote with her son Cameron, a professional trainer and coach: small change: a 28-day guide to eating, thinking and feeling healthier (2005). In 2012, she wrote Free Your Mind and the Best Will Follow. In 2013, she and Cameron teamed up again to co-author small change - BIG RESULTS: the Trainer's Guide to Eliminating Childhood Obesity with Sports. Her fourth book, The Stroke That Touched My Heart (2019), is a book that she co-wrote with her daughter, Mia, a 37-year-old stroke survivor. It chronicles their year-long journey after the stroke and is a moving story of gratitude and the health benefits of learning to be grateful in all things. Myrtle also enjoys writing poetry and has had award-winning poems published.CONTRIBUTOR BIO: Prior to January 9, 2017, Mia was a vibrant nurse and known around town for her unique crochet designs. However, life took a tragic turn for Mia when she suffered a massive stroke that left her disabled, but not discouraged. Today, as a result of learning to be grateful in all things, she continues to make progress. She is back to crocheting only this time she uses her non-dominant left hand and left knee. She and Myrtle are sharing their story of hope with anyone who has faced a life-changing event or merely in search for a heathier way to cope with the everyday challenges of life
