EWAN W. ANDERSON lectures in the Department of Geography, University of Durham, Durham DH1 3LE, England. During 1957-59, he served as an officer in the Royal Navy and he is still a commander in the Royal Naval Reserve. He has been visiting professor at several European and Middle Eastern univerisites and spent most of 1985 working in the United States. Dr. Anderson has produced over one hundred publications.
