"This book is a much-needed exploration of the importance of meat, and the fact that the real problem is the "how", not "the cow". Marianne Landzettel digs in and tells the real story. People need to hear what she has to say. Her narrative is always a pleasure to read." Sheila Cooke, Savory Institute Accredited Field Professional and Co-founder of 3LM, the Savory Network Hub in the UK and Ireland "A thriving network of small abattoirs is vital for nature friendly farming to flourish in the British Isles. Small farmers, often selling direct and choosing to operate outside of the supermarket system, require the services of this sector, now more than ever. Marianne's timely book highlights where we have gone wrong and looks to alternative models for solutions. I would urge anyone working in government, who claims to want to support this sector, to read this book." Jimmy Woodrow, Executive Director Pasture for Life "Landzettel pulls back the curtain on dominant yet destructive agricultural narratives. She introduces us to trailblazers who have found a sustainable path forward, away from harmful factory farming and demeaning industrial processing. She helps us understand how livestock, and importantly, cattle, are not the climate demons they've been made out to be, but essential in mitigating climate change. Most important, Landzettel provides compelling reason to restore reverence and respect for all life on earth, above and below ground." Melinda Hemmelgarn, Registered Dietitian and Host of Food Sleuth Radio "How we grow and nurture all aspects of our food system worldwide are among the most critical issues of our time. I certainly support Marianne's tireless efforts to do the research needed to more fully understand the details of the issues around sustainable livestock production and processing." Del Ficke, Ficke Cattle Company, Nebraska, USA "Since reintroducing livestock onto our organic farm to extend our crop rotation and build soil fertility our only local abattoir miles from the farm has closed. Having to transport our animals further and further to a slaughterhouse goes against our expectations of what high animal welfare means to us. Marianne's book is timely and makes the necessary case of how things could and should be done." John Pawsey, Organic Farmer, Suffolk, England
