Ambrose Merrell grew up exploring the fields and woods around Cambridge, England, before going to boarding school in Canterbury, Kent. After completing a degree in economics he established a web development business in Cambridge in 1995. In 1999 he discovered aikido. In 2006 he emigrated to Vancouver, Canada, with his wife and three children. He suffered from nervous breakdowns, depression after the collapse of his business and marriage, and separation from his children. After many years in the darkness he found a new light. In 2013 started writing The Sword That Saves. Today he lives in Canada with his partner and their daughter, and practices aikido at Vancouver Isshinkan Aikido.
