Bioinformatics is a multi-disciplinary relatively new field. The importance of this field increases as biology becomes more data-intensive field. The same could be said with chemistry and cheminformatics. As the field of pharmacy is a mix between biology and chemistry, it's also greatly affected by bioinformatics and cheminformatics. Different informatics algorithms and tools are used for analyzing data and building models to address pharmaceutical problems. This work used some of well recognized bioinformatics and cheminformatics tools to figure out an answer to a pharmaceutical question: What makes the anti-protozoal drug Nitazoxanide act as anti hepatitis c virus? The in-silico results in this study harmonize with some previous lab studies that were designed to solve the same question.
Autorenporträt
I'm a pharmacist with a mixed clinical and academic experience. Mainly, I'm interested in bioinformatics applications in Pharmacy. In this book, I used structural bioinformatics to demystify Nitazoxanide's anti-HCV mode of action. In PhD, I'm studying clinical bioinformatics to perform genetic guided drug prescription.
