The Department of English language was originally set up to offer instruction in English to diplomats stationed in Islamabad, but soon grew to be what is now the biggest English department in Pakistan with a strength of 200+ faculty members. The MA in English Linguistics & Literature was begun in 1996 and is currently the biggest MA English program in Islamabad. Although a relatively new university, the pace of development has exceeded all expectations and is a direct result of the MA in English program.

Shaheena Ayub Bhatti (PhD) has been teaching at the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad, for a quarter of a century. She is a Fulbright scholar and Secretary General of the Pakistan National Association of the Fulbright Alumni. Her current area of interest is contemporary American literature.
