With the new options came a completely new working environment, that is dictated by advanced surgical and digital technologies. This requires investment in a new knowledge domain, while medical and surgical training still strongly focusses on anatomy, physiology and pathology. The lack of in-depthknowledge on high tech surgical equipment and workplaces is recognized among surgeons and OR staff, but educational programs are late to adapt. This book fulfills the need for a comprehensive overview on a wide variety of technical aspects of endoscopic surgery, that need to be understood in detail before starting to work in practice. Autorenporträt
Ivo Broeders is a Dutch gastro-intestinal surgeon with extensive clinical and research experience in advanced surgical technology. He introduced robotics in the Dutch OR's in August 2000, and worked on clinical outcome, ergonomics and robotics for flexible endoscopy and CT guided interventions. He is affiliated with Twente University since 2007 as professor of robotics and minimally invasive interventions and performs research as part of the department of Robotics and Mechatronics (RAM). He currently focusses on the capacities of Artificial Intelligence to support surgeons in efficiency, safety and personal lifelong education. Sandy Kalisingh is an expert in the combination of medicine, ICT, (medical) robotics, and image processing techniques. She is currently the Business Director of her own management & consultancy agency from which she fulfills assignments for the European Commission, Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency,ASML, TU Eindhoven, TU Delft, VU, Medical Delta, and many more.For the Dutch Research Council (NWO) in the domain of Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES), Sandy works as a Senior Program Officer for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary MedTech, Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS), and (medical) robotics projects.Sandy is also Editor of Robot Magazine, Editor-in-Chief and author of "Handboek Endoscopische Chirurgie" (2009) together with prof. Ivo Broeders.
