Jaylee felt trapped in his life. It was the same thing day after day - work, eat, sleep repeat. There were times where he wished for more excitement, but at 24, he felt safe and secure in the familiarity. His was a normal life, with the only upset being a not quite memory or dream. He did not remember everything but it was dark. Abyss-dark. The sort of dark that sucked away all forms of sight. He raised his hand level with his face to see if he could see its shape. Nothing. He moved it closer to his eyes - still nothing. It was only the shock of his hand meeting his face that he realised that the lack of light was absolute. His breath came in short, sharp gasps as he strained to hear a familiar sound. Some sort of reassurance that he was not alone in the dark. At one point he thought he heard his mother's voice, echoing in the distance, shrill and panicked, but it was soon silenced, and the darkness closed even further around him. The thudding of his rapidly hammering heart was the only accompaniment to his sense of loneliness and abandonment. All that suddenly changed with the shrill, piercing cry of a Shek-Ha, the most aggressive predatory hunter anyone had ever encountered. A swift, silent, deadly creature that had no equal and no fear. He held his breath and tried, to no avail, to slow the increasing pace of his heart rate. Fear now saturated every pore of his being, mingling with the cold sweat that covered his body. The screeching cry came closer, and he began imagining all the horrible things that were going to happen. Silence. Suddenly he was surrounded by the brightest light. It blinded him causing everything in him to shut down. He was in full panic now, wanting desperately to climb back into the pitch black and hide away from what he knew was coming. He screamed when he felt something cold touch his arm. He screamed with everything that he was. All his fear and desperation erupting in a single sound. He screamed again, and again. >That echo of the quiet moments was the most adventure he wished for, but a chance encounter would send him on a path that would change everything that he knew. It would test his resolve and teach him more about himself than he ever would have imagined. It would ultimately lead him to make a decision that would not only change his life, but the life of an entire planet.
