Produktbeschreibung
Author and illustrator Birgit Ruotsala is inspired to write and illustrate books about her love for Scandinavian culture. The world of tomtes that Birgit learned about as a child is the subject of her stories, and through her stories, she hopes to share a little Scandinavian culture with others. Her tomte friends are a bit mischievous, but always loving. Each tomte family is assigned to a human family. Their job is to help and watch over the family, homestead, and animals. Because tomtes are shy around humans, they most often are not seen, but they are busy and hardworking. This story is about all the food preparations that lead up to the Christmas Eve Smörgåsbord. Join this journey as the traditional foods are gathered and prepared and enjoyed. THE TOMTE'S SMÖRGÅSBORD is Birgit's second book about tomte adventures. Her first book, THE TOMTE'S HAT is also available. You will find both books on her website: www.tomtetimes.com along with her newsletter, The Tomte Times. Autorenporträt
Birgit grew up in a Scandinavian home with strong influences from her Swedish and Norwegian grandparents. Adding to the fun, Jim, her husband, is Finnish. Preparing for and celebrating Christmas has always been filled with traditions that Birgit has cherished. It is Birgit's desire to pass down the traditions that were practiced in her family. The tomte stories share these traditions with a bit of humor and full of love. Using colored pencil drawings has been an enjoyable way to share characters and stories as well as a way to learn a new art form. In her other life, Birgit is a fiber artist with a strong connection to needlework rooted in Scandinavian techniques she learned from her mother, grandmothers, and aunts. Her quilts have received national attention and traveled with international exhibits. She grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and now lives with her husband Jim in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They enjoy ethnic cooking, gardening, woodworking, art, and music.
