For more than a quarter century the Baptist Joint Committee has published materials and resources each year to facilitate the observance of Religious Liberty Day throughout Baptist life. Originally published in their newsletter Report from the Capital in serial form, many of these writings have been collected up and published in this volume. Written by the Baptist Joint Committee coalition, these words to celebrate religious liberty continue to serve well as templates for sermons, resources for church school, study courses and other training sessions on religious liberty and church-state separation, particularly in the context of the local church. Among the sermons included in the book are works by George W. Truett, T.B. Maston, James M. Dunn, Charles G. Adams, William Hull, Hardy Clemons, and Gardner Taylor. J. Brent Walker, an ordained minister and attorney, is Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty in Washington, D.C., and an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center.
