The African National Congress (ANC) members have to decide on the 53rd National Conference if nationalization of the mines will become part of the political economic strategy of South Africa. To understand the many aspects surrounding this question this thesis explores how (1) a public debate emerged on nationalization of the mines, (2) what the chances are that nationalization of the mines truly becomes ANC-policy and (3) if nationalization of the South African mines can be the solution against the two unequal "economic worlds" in South Africa?
