Since its establishment, the United Nations has undergone a remarkable change following two major developments; one external and the other one being internal. Externally, the end of the Cold War and the decline of ideological competition created a new world order in which the United Nations was operating. Internally, the organization undertook a series of major reforms to improve on its founding mandate of maintaining international peace and security. Some of the reforms undertaken involved strengthening of both humanitarian and peacekeeping operations in conflict areas, along with the mandates and objectives of a wide range of other actors. In this book, what I point out to be worthwhile in these reforms, is how humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts are coordinated in war zones to save lives and facilitate effective process to recovery.
