Roger Penrose has plausible ideas about a cyclical Big Bang with no beginning and no end. It's self-creating, if you will. I've also mentioned other notable astrophysicists, Brian Cox, Brian Greene, Sean Carroll and Carl Sagan. Max Bennett has the notion that the universe might be a gigantic brain that is evolving. Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time also merits a brief explanation in my book, a book on, well, Everything.
