How do I start? This book is about a journey, one that took me seventy-five years to take. It all started in Illinois, where I was born in 1941. My first memory was of being locked in a highchair and looking out the door to see the field on fire in the backyard. I was alone, and I was scared. My older sister had been playing with matches and set the tall grass in the back on fire. Being alone and scared seem to follow me all through my life.

Autorenporträt
Until 2004, Jackie considered herself a true city girl, and then she emigrated to Canada and settled on Vancouver Island. She is now married to Bob, a commercial fisherman and accomplished storyteller - like most fishermen! She loves to write warm cozy mystery stories, the kind you can read with a large mug of tea and a slice of cake on a rainy afternoon. Jackie is passionate about local history, and her ideas are often prompted by an afternoon browsing around a museum, or by digging back into her own family history.
