The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the period of Mossoró's history that spans from 1850 to 1876. This time frame is based on two events that took place in the city: the elevation of Mossoró to the status of town in 1852 and to the status of city in 1870. He has a degree in History from the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (2010-2014). He is currently a master's student on the Postgraduate Programme in Social Sciences (PPGCISH) (2015-2017) at the same university. He is interested in Imperial Brazil, History of Rio Grande do Norte, urbanisation and social conflicts, social control and cangaço.
