If you look at the policies of the Republican Party individually they are not at all unusual stands for the party to take. If you look at the policies of the Republican Party individually they are not at all unusual stands for the party to take. But if you look at the intensity with which the GOP is pursuing its agenda, and the number of changes they want to make to the way the US Constitution functions right now then clearly the Conservatives are up to something. The Republicans are dissatisfied with everything that they see as Liberal about our laws, and the size of our government, and the over-regulation by government. But they are not willing to patiently correct each policy piece by piece. They think America is in a desperate state, close to losing its ascendancy and not growing economically. They see that the world seems smaller and political decisions on one side of the globe affect other nations much more quickly and comprehensively that they used to. The world is changing too fast for them. They want the Industrial Age back, but world economics and environmental concerns make that unlikely. They feel that if they could legislate a purer, more fundamentalist Constitution that strips away the complexities that 200+ years have added to the document in the form of amendments, laws, and traditions they could stop progress, change directions, and make the balance of power between the federal government and state governments conform more closely to the duties of each as defined by our founding fathers. This short book attempts to look at the GOP strategies for achieving the Conservative America they are trying to bring about. It looks at attacks on the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, The Fifteenth Amendment, checks and balances, and Roe v Wade. What I see in all the actions of the GOP during the Obama administration is behavior that amounts to an attempted coup on government as we know it. If Republicans can control all three branches of government; the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judicial then they can destroy the two party system and make the America of their dreams. How will the American people enjoy living the Conservative dream? Not as much as they think they will, I would guess.
