There are many types of communication. The emergence of electronic media has changed the way we communicate with each other. This book investigates the use of electronic media to support interpersonal communication. The study builds upon the knowledge that electronic media constitutes a two-edge sword. On the one hand, it keeps people connected, and on the other hand, it causes people to feel less connected as they substitute electronic communications for face-to-face communication. The results of this research imply that extensive reliance on electronic media has the potential to revolutionize the interactions among human beings. In other words, the use of electronic media could gradually develop into a new form of interactions in many communities in the U.S. and around the world. The primary concerns raised by these findings indicate that the convenience offered by electronic media presents some inherit risk.
