The main purpose of this descriptive study was to investigate the heuristics employed by the second year students in a public secondary school in Albay Province in solving problems in Algebra. Further it looked into the difficulties of the students along conceptual understanding, procedural skills and numeracy. Nedie B. Sevilla es doctora en Educación Matemática por la Escuela de Postgrado de la Universidad de Bicol. Es profesora de Matemáticas e Investigación en el Instituto Nacional de Buga y, al mismo tiempo, presta sus servicios a los colegios y universidades locales de su localidad. Es aficionada a realizar investigaciones que tratan sobre la resolución de problemas y la heurística.
