This book is useful for teachers, students and anyone who wants to understand the errors that undergraduate students make in the use of negatives in their ESL writing. Even though the sample in this book comprises sixty undergraduate Malay students, the findings may be extended to other races too. The major causes for these errors in the use of negatives are due to interference from Malay grammar, the nature of English grammar, overgeneralization of linguistic rules, direct translation, inadequate learning, teaching and analogy. This book also discusses some ways of teaching negatives to ESL Malay students.
