This study corporates a fairly detailed contrastive analysis of the passive voice in the language of journalism in both English and Arabic in an attempt to establish similarities and differences between these two unrelated language . It provides a linguistic analysis of forms / structures employed to express the meaning of the passive. The treatment subsumes distribution, types, relevant transformations and functions of passive sentences. The conclusion that can be drawn is that passive sentences are optional in both languages and they are transformationally derived from corresponding active ones. Moreover, both languages have short passives and long passive used to express the author's viewpoint.
