Peter Hamilton is Lecturer in Sociology at The OpenUniversity. He played a key role in developing sociology at TheOpen University, and in sociology publishing more generally. Hisrecent publications include The Beautiful and the Damned(with Roger Hargreaves) (2001).

Kenneth Thompson is Professor in Sociology at The OpenUniversity. He was one of the founders of sociology at The OpenUniversity and is co-President of the International SociologicalAssociation Research Committee on Sociological Theory. His previouspublications include Moral Panics (1999).
