This work deals with the "New Woman" in Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla and Bram Stoker's Dracula. The theoretical part lights up the role of gender in the Victorian Era and the New Woman and her significant achievements in the fin de siècle. This will be followed by a deep analysis of these two works. The analysis shows which aspects of the New Woman were demonized and how. Finally, the topic of gender and the different concepts of womanhood will be set in a didactic context.
