This inaugural edition contains a collection of poems and short stories written by Minh Hien about Vietnamese traditions and about herself as a seventeen-year-old Vietnamese girl who risked her life in a small fishing boat to pursue education and thirty-eight years later while undergoing treatment for breast cancer successfully stood up for her rights against a giant public employer. Minh Hi¿n is an educator, a researcher and the author of The Vietnamese Australians: Traditions, Education, Tenacity and My Heritage: Vietnam fatherland motherland. She was selected to participate in the 2023 Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) short-listed Publishable program and was long-listed in the QWC Publishable program in 2022, the 2021 Fellowship & Access Manuscript Development initiative through the QWC, the 2019 Hardcopy National Professional Development Program initiative through the ACT Writers Centre to write her memoir. In 2006, she was awarded an Australian Society of Authors Mentorship and was mentored by Judith Lukin-Amundsen while completing a Master of Arts in Creative Writing. She has worked as an engineer, an IT consultant, a systems accountant, a systems manager and a family business manager and owner. While working, she studied for university qualifications in the fields of Engineering, Accounting, Commerce, Management, Arts, and Education and completed a qualification as a professional member of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants (CPA). She holds a Master of Education, a Master of Higher Education, a Master of Arts in Creative Writing, a Master of Commerce, a Master of Engineering Science, a Graduate Diploma in Management, a Graduate Conversion Course qualification in Accounting and a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, from universities in NSW, VIC, QLD and TAS. She is featured in the 2008 Who's Who in Tasmania.
