When you buy this book or any of my children's books, 100% of what I collect helps children in many parts of Haiti to receive an education and change their lives forever. As a child, I was taught to call those who did not share my Christian beliefs non-believers. Those who still shared the same religion and beliefs as my ancestors were often described as evil, the devil's children and a few other unkind names. Early on, we were led to believe that our ancestors had no culture, religions, or beliefs worth nurturing. That was until in history class, when we learned that they prayed to the "good God", as opposed to the God of the merciless masters, who gave them strength to fight against their oppressors and lead the people to freedom. That it was only in self defense and in the name of freedom that they revolted, but not because they were evil. But how does a 10-year-old process this level of prejudice? We now understand that it was not all true the wrong attributed to them, that people who practiced Voodoo were not necessarily evil, but it was humankind, irrespective of faith, culture or practice. The Voodoo Princess and the Despicable Troll takes some realistic facts in our history and culture as a people and paint it with surrealism, while depicting the natural beauty of Haiti, its myths and folklore. Back in elementary school, parts of the Haitian history were so fascinating that sometimes, it sounded like fiction. Excited that you will discover some facts about the rich Haitian history in this book. The story involves the Voodoo Kingdom family, Voodoo King, Voodoo Queen, their son Ogoo and the Voodoo Princess, their daughter (Erzulie Thoya). The Voodoo Princess is blessed with superpowers granted by the spirits that animated her ancestors and goes on a mission to rescue her brother in danger. It all started on the coast of West Africa, where the original Voodoo Prince from the Dahomey kingdom had been captured and taken into slavery in Hispaniola. According to The Book of Good Against Evil, it was written that the people would be taken away from the mother land to this new destination, the promise land.
