This deluxe three-volume boxset brings together classic spiritual texts, Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran and The Egyptian Book of the Dead, presented in luxurious silk binding with gold embossing. The Tao Te Ching came into existence some 2500 years ago, since when it has become the most influential text of Eastern philosophy. Best translated as The Classic of the Way and its Power (or Virtue), its teachings are of simplicity, humility and 'non-action', and its cadenced poetry is at once spare and profound. The Prophet is a concise but deeply profound prose poem set in the city of Orphalese. Before leaving on a journey to his homeland, the prophet Almustafa imparts words of wisdom to the crowds, touching on occasions of birth, marriage, death and all of life's other milestones. An international bestseller, it has furnished individuals the world over with words of joy or consolation. The Egyptian Book of the Dead is an ancient collection of spells, prayers and incantations designed to guide the departed through the perils of the underworld. Written as part of funeral rites to ensure eternal life, these scrolls were often left in the sarcophagus of the deceased and now offer fascinating insight into Egyptian culture. Each volume is beautifully bound in silk with gold-foil embossing and features full-color illustrations inside. The stunning box set cover design is illustrated by Tithi Luadthong. This luxurious presentation makes it a wonderful collectible for anyone wanting to deepen their connection to ancient spiritual practices.
Autorenporträt
Lao Tzu (an honorific title, meaning 'Old Master') was believed to be a contemporary of Confucius and the father of Taoism in the 6th Century BC. Many modern scholars, however, doubt his existence and contend that the Tao Te Ching was the work of several authors. Kahlil Gibran (1887-1931) was a Lebanese-American poet, writer and artist who is the third best-selling poet of all time. His most celebrated work, The Prophet has sold more than 10 million copies in America alone and has been translated into over 100 languages. This version of Egyptian funerary scrolls is that of the famous and well-preserved Papyrus of Ani, written around 1500BC. Ani was the Royal Scribe of Thebes, Overseer of the Granaries of the Lords of Abydos, and Scribe of the Offerings of the Lords of Thebes. The author is unknown.
