Carol Ann Healy (nee McEvoy) was born on 13th September 1935 in Carshalton Beeches, Surrey though the rest of her family came from Bradford in Yorkshire. She was educated at Oakburn School in Bowness-on-Windermere during wartime, Convent High School Stockport, and Manchester University. Having graduated from there, she married the following year, aged 21, before becoming Head of Classics at a Cheshire Grammar School, during which time she was awarded an in-service teaching certificate. Having graduated from there, she married the following year, aged 21, before becoming Head of Classics at a Cheshire Grammar School, during which time she was awarded an in-service teaching certificate. She also studied harp under Gwendolin Mason OBE 1961 onwards, was a form teacher and Head of Modern Languages and Common Entrance at Chesham Preparatory School from January 1970 to May 1997, thence a salesperson for her son's book business and tutor of Modern Greek from 1981 to 2016. Her varied interests include cooking, spending time in the countryside, driving, languages, music, travelling, and writing.
