Margery Wolverton was a "book worm" as a child, and especially loved stories of horses and cowboys. She grew up on the outskirts of Omaha, Nebraska, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Omaha. A year after graduation, she married "Red Cloud" Wolverton, and they lived on ranches in Oregon, Montana, Colorado, and Arizona. They have four grown children and eight grandchildren. For over thirty years, the Wolvertons have lived on a small ranch just outside Tucson. One dwelling on the place is a museum of Morgan horses, unicorns, and "cowboy country." Margery has written several books for children, mostly about unicorns. She also loves art work; doing paintings of western scenes and colored pencil drawings of horses.
