Seine Heiligkeit der 14. Dalai Lama, wurde am 6. Juli 1935 geboren. Nach der Besetzung Tibets durch China 1959 floh der Dalai Lama nach Indien, von wo aus er sich seitdem für ein unabhängiges Tibet einsetzt. 1989 wurde er mit dem Friedensnobelpreis geehrt. 2011 übergibt er die politische Führung Tibets an Lobsang Songay, der von Exiltibetern zum Ministerpräsidenten der Exilregierung in freier Wahl gewählt wurde. Der Dalai Lama will jetzt nur noch »einfacher Mönch« sein.
