Autorenporträt
Emma Guy grew up in Belfast in the 1970s and started her career as a welder, demonstrating at a tender age that she liked to fix things. Since opening her own acupuncture clinic a decade ago, she has become equally adept at fixing people too. The awards received since prove she's good at it, too. Her debut book, The Wisdoms of the Menopausal Godmother, is an example of how she draws on a deep well of personal experience to help others. At the age of 46, she had a successful mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer. However, she entered menopause earlier than most women as a result. The book shares knowledge she has gained during her own journey as well as from conversations with others at different stages of theirs. And there have been many of those; indeed, she estimates that as an acupuncturist she has encountered more than a thousand women experiencing a life change. The result is an acupuncture practice - the 'Guy Protocol' - that is proven to treat the symptoms of menopause. Need evidence? She presents it in black and white. The Menopausal Godmother, conceived during the first lockdown in England of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, is in part inspired by that success. Her mission is clear; to provide a safe space on the internet where women can seek solidarity and practical advice, while at the same time changing the tone of conversation on a topic still carries more stigma than it should. menopausalgodmother.co.uk / @menogodmum
