John Ruot joined the southern Sudanese army when he was just 13 years old. He starded to fight against Bin Laden's terrorism going on in Sudan. In order to fight it, he had to learn 14 languages. As a Lost Boy in southern Sudan, he saw terrorism long before Americans saw it on 9/11. From years of struggle, he knows first-hand that terrorism is not a good thing for human life. Upon coming to the United States, John joined the U.S. Army as soon as he heard that the U.S. was fighting against terrorism. He knows that both Muslims and Christians are good people and that terrorism is not based on religion but rather on the evil in bad people. The bad people just have to be taken out. John would like to eliminate terrorism in all parts of the world. To do so, he has fought against terrorists on three different continents so far. He knows that Israel, with its continual struggles, is the only other country that understands the unending war against terrorism that southern Sudan endured. Although soldiers should read this book in order to understand what they are fighting against, it is not a combat story. Rather it is the memoir of a boy growing up in a war, and surviving it against incredible odds. It is a story of the triumph of the human spirit and of hope.
