Gaining notoriety, he also became in civil rights specifically regarding the plight of Africans in America then known as negroes and were treated as less then human were deprived of God given rights. He eventually became committed to being an activist in a strong growing stronger Civil Rights Movement. He by then living in Black Harlem as an artist and activist was well respected in Harlem and beyond.
