This book is anticipated to advance knowledge about health sector reform as a systemic change process. Towards that end, in this book, a theoretical analysis of the health sector reform in Nigeria as a systemic change process grounded in the literature on the evolutionary, diffusionist, structural functionalist, conflict (Marxist), and social disorganisation theories is presented. Prior to presenting the analysis, a brief overview of the literature on the health care system in Nigeria and its performance compared to those of other countries of the world is provided. The theoretical analysis provides a set of basic concepts and principles that can be used to understand the systemic change process. It can also be used as an applied tool to examine change efforts in the health system. The analysis is however applicable to other health systems globally particularly in middle- and low-income countries with similar developmental experience as Nigeria.
