This book is the result of an adaptation - a shortened version with a renewed title and minimal adjustments - of the text of the master's thesis which, under the original title: La Evaluación desde la gestión del documento en un país en vías de desarrollo, was carried out in its time within the framework of the III Master in Documentary Management and Archives Administration - Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA), Spain. The original thesis approached the subject of Documentary Evaluation from a theoretical-evolutionary perspective with a transdisciplinary approach and legislative emphasis, through a comparative study integrating different visions of different authors, throughout the period 1898-2013. It adds a rich Glossary and an extensive Bibliography of authors belonging to the archival traditions, mainly Hispanic and Anglo-Saxon. The debate on Documentary Appraisal can be as exciting, if not more so, than the debate on the principle of provenance, since it goes to the very essence of archives, when nothing less than their very existence depends on it.
