Diabetes mellitus is a major public health problem in the world. It is a long considered disease of minor significance to world health which is now taking its place as one of the major threats to human health in the 21st century. The past two decades have seen as explosive diabetes worldwide. Pronounced changes in the human environment, human behavior, lifestyle and accompanied globalization have resulted in escalating rates of both obesity and diabetes. Many of the conventional drugs that are available for the management of the diabetes are not only expensive but also have numerous side effects, which lead to complications. On the other hand, herbal medications are cheaper and locally available. Many of the plant species growing throughout the world contain active constituents that offer benefits that conventional drugs lack, helping combats illness while supporting the body's efforts to regain good health.
