Thermo-Mechanical Characterisation of Carbon Foams focuses mainly on the experimental measurements of POCOFOAM and ALLCOMP FOAM thermal conductivities, experimental determination of POCOFOAM Young's modulus and Yield strength at low stress and comparison of these values with simulated ones. This book provides the manufacturing process of the materials investigated together with a practical understanding of the physical phenomena involved. The results achieved by the studies undertaken made a considerable contribution to the Research and Development of the design of the ATLAS inner tracker upgrade. The values obtained were used to understand and optimize the actual tracker stave and explore new design options. Three measurement systems were designed for the determination of thermal and mechanical properties : (1) In-Plane thermal conductivity measurement system (2) Transverse thermal conductivity measurement system (3) Jig for mechanical measurement at low stress
