The book gives a comprehensive account of the thermodynamic and transport behavior of series of lanthanide halides and their mixtures in both the solid and liquid (molten) phases. The data, obtained by employing a variety of experimental techniques (differential scanning calorimetry, high temperature calorimetry, electrical conductivity measurements), has helped resolve several anomalies that existed in literature. Mostly, the data have been obtained by the author for the first time. In addition to critically evaluating the data obtained, the author has successfully used it to interpret the systematics in the lanthanide series with very sound logistics and scientific reasoning, and to correlate the data with the structures of the corresponding solids. Such systematics and correlation gives an in depth understanding of the behaviour of these compounds, which are scientifically and technologically important. The results are of immense value to scientists working on the fundamental aspects of lanthanide halides, as well as to technologists working in a variety of fields ranging from the production of lanthanide metals, halide discharge lamps to the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.
