He tells her that her ancestral home awaits, but warns that she must beware of "the spiral"…whatever that means. And then she learns that her grandfather is dead. When Helen, her mother, and stepfather return to Harrowstone Hall for the funeral, they expect to leave immediately after the service. There's nothing but bad blood between her mom and the rest of the family. That is, until it's revealed that the bulk of her grandfather's grandiose fortune, along with Harrow itself, have been left to Helen-though everyone else will still receive several million dollars apiece.
