Produktbeschreibung
The term 'history' is used here to describe a compilation of events that were captured as memories, information and images in literature, family photos or postcards of the area of Kassandrou street an integral part of the "upper city". The top part of the "upper city" is marked by the northern part of the ancient and Byzantine walls, which once surrounded the city. This used to be a beautiful sight for the inhabitants of the lower part of the city, decorated with the red tiled pitched roofs of the buildings that populated the slope, the ¿¿bayir¿¿, as it used to be called, a remnant of the Ottoman Empire. The tiled roofs were framed by the bright yellow walls on the northern side. The two main names of the city, Thessaloniki and Kassandrou recurre thro ugh history. Two names of members of the royal family of Macedonia; Cassander, a descendant of Alexander the Great, King of Macedonia, built the city and named it after his wife the half-sister of Alexander the Great, daughter of Philip II. Augustus Julianos "meets" Kassandros at the crossing point of the two streets (Kassandrou and Ioulianou), although they never met each other in the course of their lives. However the book will not narrate the politics and murders related to the history of these men. Instead it will focus on the neighbourhood around the crossroads of the streets named after them.
