Ralph Waldo Trine (1866-1958) was an American writer, philosopher, and advocate for animal welfare. Born in Mount Morris, Illinois, Trine was influenced by the idealistic philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson and the Christian socialism of George Herron. He obtained his education at Knox College and Johns Hopkins University, developing a diverse spiritual outlook blending Buddhism, pantheism, spiritualism, transcendentalism, Christian socialism, and neo-Vedanta philosophy.
